Action Needed by Jan. 14: Tell the Bureau of Land Management to Forgo Plans to Spay Wild Horses
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Wyoming is moving forward with its plans to spay mares on the range, which has disastrous consequences. They're doing so under the pretense of a "research" program.
Public comments are due to BLM by January 14, 2016.
According to the American Wild Horse Preservation, "Gelding (castrating) and spaying wild horses blocks their ability to produce the hormones that drive natural behaviors and maintain health in horses, inalterably impacting their wild free-roaming behaviors."
Beyond that, these procedures also put the horses at risk of many health-related problems including life-threatening bleeding and infection. This is a huge concern because when these procedures are performed in a field setting, the wild horses will be released to the range where their recovery cannot be monitored for complications.
